I’ve heard the word cloying before, I never knew exactly what it meant though, just the vibe. It makes me think of cake frosting that gets stuck in your mouth and clogs up your throat.

Hi bonita, remember that Spanish is spoken not only in Mexico but in the rest of a vast area or region of Central and South America and also in Spain! To “lock” the door we can use the one word, trancar o trabar that mean not only to close the door but also to add some sort of extra safety device I.e. a locked lock or a bar… I love your contents. Please keep up the good work! 😊 A mean person is a HDP! 😂 yes, a three-word word!

I speak Spanish and it would be great to be able to practice English with someone in the comments. I am Colombian and if you are learning Spanish, you could practice with me. It would be a kind of cultural exchange, if you like the idea leave your reaction here in this comment and we will coordinate to practice together. Greetings, I hope I was not rude with my comment.🎉

I am glad that she mentions the challenges that experts warn about: do not speak a language that you struggle with being spontaneous in, that you don't know well as PRIMARY language, and there are really many many reasons for this. There are many multilinguals - like myself - who could choose from two or more languages to speak as primary language with their children, but we are an exception. It is of utmost importance to speak a language you can bond on an emotional level with your child, be spontaneous and do NOT have to look up words when interacting with your children! You can always ADD another language when your children are around 3-4 years old, or add it at very clear moments (using the Time and Place strategy) even earlier on, hire a nanny who speaks the target language and therefore use the strategy that for babies and toddlers is easier to understand: One Person One Language. I understand the intention of the parents, but the children can feel when we express ourselves better in the other language and they sense the filter that the language we're not so fluent in puts between us and them. You don't want to risk that. This all said, I grew up multilingual myself and raised my, now all adult, three children with multiple (5-7) languages too. It is possible to do this in a healthy and effective way...

The official name of our nation is The United States of America. America is part of our official name. It can get confusing because we can go by the United States or America or USA for short. But officially our name is The United States of America. Canada is just Canada, not Canada of America. Hopefully this will clear up some of the confusion and resentment. Best wishes to you all.

Me machuque el dedo gordo . Because Spanish speakers know that el dedo gordo is the big fat toe . Asegura la puerta . Lock the door . Awkward means raro . Hater is odioso or odiosa . Mean is grosero or grosera . Cringe is apenarse . El baile de mi padre y yo fue penoso . Su presentación fue un poco penosa .

I'm an American living in Norway with a Norwegian husband and we have completely failed to do any of these 3 models specifically- we have mostly English at home but use Norwegian too, we mostly use Norwegian with the grandparents but I still speak English with them sometimes. But at 6+7 my two kids are completely bilingual and can switch seamlessly. It's incredible to witness

Some of my favorites: Le patina el coco (his coconut skates) "he's a crazy..." Ponte las pilas (put on your batteries) "get with it. get going. get moving." No te pongas el moño (don't put on a bowtie) "don't make a big fuss." Suelta la sopa (toss the soup) "tell what you know" or "spill the beans."

Hahahaa… you know what? Don’t include the i in the word peine and let’s see who laughs first 😂😂😂 That really cracked me up. Listen one 😂😂 one day I went to this Mexican supermarket and the electric pen to sign at the cash register counter to pay for the groceries was broken and someone who probably does not know fluent English wrote down on a piece of cardboard, well they wanted to say: The pen is broken, use your finger, but instead they put this down: THE PENIS BROKEN, USE YOUR FINGER 😂😂😂😂 They didn’t separate the word PEN IS… instead they put the two words together and obviously is said: PENIS… 😂😂😂 Majority of the customer were Hispanic and probably they didn’t really understand because they were like 6 people ahead of me and no one said anything until I got there 😂

METER LA PATA does NOT mean TO MAKE A MESS OF THINGS, it is more like TO MAKE A BLUNDER, TO FALL FOR IT, TO F... UP. Apart from this, Holly is the ONLY Spanish tutor on youtube among TONS AND DOZENS I had to endure today trying to find adequate teachers for my very own students here. Apart from her I have not found a single one who is competent. Holly has no annoying and dumb accent of any kind, she is energetic, intelligent and honest. A 💯 % RECOMMENDABLE. WITH HER YOU WILL LEARN TRUE SPANISH, WITH ALL OTHERS YOU WON'T.
